Summary of Book

This is the true story of how one young boy dedicated his life to creating and cultivating an expansive forest that continues to grow to this day. In a world impacted by climate change, Jadav Payeng’s inspirational story shows how one person’s contributions can make a difference in helping to save our environment.

Featuring a beautiful arlin paper cover with foil text enhancements and educational back matter including a glossary, fun facts, and resources for further reading, this book introduces a new understanding of our planet and encourages mindfulness and action when it comes to caring for the environment.


Author Biography

Anne Matheson has been writing since 2013 with her debut book I Love My Hair. She has gone on to write other books such as I Love to Sing: Read with Me.

Sophia’s debut book, The Boy Who Grew a Forest: The True Story of Jadav Payeng, was a NCSS Notable Social Studies Trade Book, a Florida State Book Award Gold Medalist, Eureka! Nonfiction Honor Book and a 2020 Green Earth Honor Book.


Illustrator Biography

Kay is a freelance illustrator based in Chorlton, Manchester. She's made a living from art for the past 34 years. She studied at Chesterfield College of Art and Design where she discovered her love of illustration and design. She then work as an animator in children’s television for five years before going freelance. Since then she has worked as a freelance illustrator for children’s books. All her work is hand- drawn and painted in gouache, felt-tip pens and colored pencils in a messy way and then adjusted in photoshop. She enjoys being in her studio every day with her cat Pablo, radio on, paintbrush in hand, coffee and biscuits at the ready and paint all day.
