Summary of Book

Bindiya in India is the story of a young Indian-American girl's first trip to India for an Indian wedding. Weaving together Hindi and English, the children's illustrated book takes place in the 1990s. Follow Bindiya as she meets her extended family for the first time, celebrates Indian wedding traditions, and creates memories and bonds to last a lifetime.

Author Biography

Monique Chheda is a dermatologist living in Maryland. She is married and has two young children. Becoming a mother inspired her to revive one of her hobbies, writing. Wanting to pass on her Indian culture to her children, she found a scarcity of children's books that allowed Indian American children to connect with their heritage. This prompted her to write her own children's book, Bindiya in India. Her hope is that through literature, she can share India s rich culture and language with the next generation.

Illustrator Biography

As an artist and arts-for-change advocate, Debasmita created ArtsPositive combining her passion for illustrations and her decade-long experience as a communications specialist working across Asia and Europe. Besides incubating ideas and managing ArtsPositive's projects, she is an internationally published picture book illustrator and graphic novelist. In 2018, she was nominated for the "Kirkus Reviews Prize for Best Picture Book" . Her debut graphic novel NADYA by Scholastic India is critically acclaimed across many countries. She enjoys drawing both fiction and non-fiction for children and young adults.
