Summary of Book

Little Marisol is like a Hispanic American version of Pippi Longstocking – a spunky and fun-loving little girl who doesn’t let anyone put her into a box. Marisol does things the way she likes, from wearing polka dots with stripes to being a soccer playing pirate princess. When she gets teased it does get her down, but she stays true to herself nonetheless. Bouncy prose and appealing acrylic illustrations make bilingual Marisol McDonald doesn’t match a fun, confidence-boosting read.

Author Biography

Cuban-born Laura Lacámara is the award-winning author and illustrator of Dalia's Wondrous Hair / El cabello maravilloso de Dalia (Piñata Books), a bilingual picture book about a clever girl who transforms her unruly hair into a vibrant garden.

Illustrator Biography

Born in Mexico and raised among giant grandmothers, mossy house walls, and rampaging feral gardens, Yuyi Morales fostered a strong bond with the magical stories that ran in her family. Since having immigrated to the USA in 1994, she has drawn from her family's legacy and her heritage to create some of the most celebrated Latino works for children's books.
